In Jane's words, "As my wonderful and wise old neighbor said, 'Now you are the Queen and this is your castle.'
99 Steps was origally named after the 'Out of Town' sign from the old Richmond Hill, Georgia Post Office, when it was torn down. When people would ask where I was...I was 'Out of Town.' Then it became 'The Healing Place' like Tybee, an indian name for salt-- the healing mineral.

"No matter what the name, this 670 square foot cottage has true Magic. It smells like a beach house. My favorite saying here is, 'Ocean air through open windows--bare feet on wood floors. A Special place in time.' To make it mine, I added fresh glossy wooden walls, old pocket windows, a simple color pallet which flows throughout the space to make it appear larger than it actually is. Small french doors were added. A heart pine bar top divides the kitchen from the sitting area (an old bracket is used as a support). An old window was turned into a wine glass holder, combined with Newell post-hangs from the vaulted butt jointed wooden ceiling that hides new insulation. The fabrics are simple stripes (much is outdoor sunbrella and several English vintage Collier Campbell prints in coordinating pallets. Furniture is all white, as are the walls. All are old pieces...collected and salvaged and inherited. The blue watering can lamp is one of my personal creations. Old exterior house vents were given new life and respect and painted the same clear blue. The sink is original and makes one know the simple pleasure of washing one's face. The bathroom is small but emblished with waves painted by my son, Bauer Coslick, with fish and crabs painted by my sister Patricia Walton who teaches interior design at Georgia Southern University.

"The cottage was respectfully left pretty much in its original state. My friends Suzanne McElwee
and John Dugger and I had the GRANDEST time creating the happiness that oozes from its every nook and cranny."
